Understanding risk can be very complicated. The Corps of Engineers is fully dedicated to ensuring citizens understand their risks so they can make informed decisions.
This site is focused on communicating the latest scientific information about Greater New Orleans-area flood risks from hurricanes; information developed by the Interagency Performance Evaluation Task-force (IPET).
We encourage citizens to download interactive maps to see their risks in terms of geography, but more importantly we hope you will take the time to explore this site to get familiar with what the risk graphics really mean. The most helpful information can be found in the FAQs, Definitions, and the links below.
Consequence Data: In the Interactive Maps Section, each sub-basin page (not including Plaquemines) has a link to "consequence data." This information depicts a comparison of forecasted consequences (life and property) for the 1% annual chance of flooding, between Pre-Katrina and Current hurricane protection system conditions. If "N/C" is displayed, that means there is "no change" in forecasted consequences between the two conditions.
